Parents - Panorama Cancelled

Sent Home Via Final Forms to All Parents/Guardians

November 8, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians:

After meeting with other Preble County schools the decision has been made to not use the Panorama Survey for our students.  There have been enough concerns raised within our community and parents to change the pathway we will use to gather information that we would like to use to help us guide our assistance with our students Social and Emotional Supports.  I do understand that time was taken to provide PD and guidance on how to administer the survey and apologize for the change as I do value and respect your time.  However, I would like to make sure that any data we collect is data from all students and not just a particular set of students because of parents withdrawing their students due to concerns about the survey.  In case you are not aware, there were concerns that the data collected by Panorama would be used by them to tie our students to some aspect of CRT.  We cannot control what some think or read, but we do have to listen to concerns, and this was a major concern in our community.

I would also like to address CRT

  • Definition of Critical Race Theory:  Critical race theory is an academic concept that is more than 40 years old. The core idea is that race is a social construct, and that racism is not merely the product of individual bias or prejudice, but also something embedded in legal systems and policies.

  • We are not and will not be adding this to any curriculum at Preble Shawnee now or anytime in the future.  There have never been any plans and will not be any plans.  We use a variety of instructional tools in our classrooms, and we use a variety of surveys to see how we can better meet our students' needs, but we would never allow anything that would promote or teach CRT in our schools.  We also do not allow our staff to teach CRT as they all know they are required to follow the curriculum of the state standards that are aligned with the state assessments our students take yearly.  These include the basics of Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, Science, Health, Music, PE, and Art. All taught curriculum must be board approved.

Preble Shawnee Alumnus Inducted into MVCTC Hall of Fame
MVCTC Alumnus, Trevor Holsinger, Inducted Into MVCTC Hall of Fame
Englewood, Ohio –Trevor Holsinger was inducted into the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Hall of Fame on Thursday, October 7, 2021, during the All Advisory Dinner. Trevor, a 2009 graduate of Preble Shawnee Schools, attended the Allied Health Tech Prep program at MVCTC.  He is now employed as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Miami Valley Hospital.
Trevor Holsinger graduated from the MVCTC  with his State Tested Nursing Assistant certification and began his healthcare career at Miami Valley Hospital (MVH) as a Nutrition Associate and later as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) on the Heart and Vascular Unit.
While working at MVH, Trevor earned his associate’s degree in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse (RN) from Sinclair Community College. After acquiring his Registered Nurse Licensure, he began to work on the Heart and Vascular unit at MVH as an RN.
While working full time, raising a family, gaining experience as a bedside nurse on a surgical step-down unit, Trevor also completed online classes for a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Ohio University.
After two years, he transferred to the Heart and Vascular ICU. A year later, Trevor had the opportunity to recover open-heart patients and other specialty one-on-one patients. The challenge of those patients and the in-depth learning and teaching that he gained by working closely with doctors and surgeons more deeply solidified his desire to return to graduate school. He applied and was accepted to Texas Wesleyan University’s Nurse Anesthetist program and earned his master’s degree in Nurse Anesthesia in December of 2020.
Trevor is now a practicing Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and continues to serve the patients of Miami Valley Hospital. In addition, Trevor has served as Alternated Team Leader, Unit Council Member, and Preceptor during his bedside Nursing career.
Trevor’s MVCTC Instructor and nominator is Tonya Barnett
The ten new MVCTC Hall of Fame members received a special crystal award presented to them by MVCTC Superintendent Dr. Nick Weldy and Director of Instruction Dr. Rhonda Phillips at a dinner meeting attended by over 350 program advisory members. MVCTC Hall of Fame members are inducted every five years. Dr. Nick Weldy, MVCTC Superintendent, stated, “We are proud to honor our returning alumni who have been so successful after leaving the Miami Valley Career Technology Center! Their former instructors provided a firm foundation to assist them in building careers that have blossomed. I appreciate that all of the inductees returned to campus to participate in the ceremony and show their dedication to our current mission of educating students to be career and college-ready. In addition, they serve as inspiring role models for our current students. I congratulate each of our inductees and wish them the best of luck in their quest for continued success.”
